Individual
Therapy

I provide individual therapy for older adolescents and adults (16 and older). Deciding to pursue therapy is a brave step that should be celebrated. I aim to provide a safe place for you to process the hurts and hurdles you’ve experienced and collaborate on goals to help you find the healing you deserve.

Common issues addressed in individual therapy include but are not limited to the following:

  • Anxiety, depression, and other mood disruptions

  • Grief/loss

  • Adjustment/transition

  • Attachment insecurity

  • Coping skills

  • Identity issues

  • History of trauma

  • Sexual assault or abuse

  • Perinatal mental health (pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding struggles and grief)

  • Relational stress

  • Low self-esteem

Specializations

  • I have specialized training and experience working with individuals who are walking through issues related to fertility, pregnancy, loss, and postpartum. I understand that this time can sometimes feel especially fraught and sometimes trigger issues from your past, questions about your worth, and worries about the future.

As someone who recognizes that most concerns take a multi-faceted and holistic approach, I work with individuals to identify additional supports they may need during this time (i.e. physical therapists, nutritionists, fertility specialists and doctors, lactation consultants, etc.) while also working with them to treat the mental health, relational, and identity concerns that may arise during this season.

  • Trauma can impact a person’s beliefs about themselves and the world, their ability to function in day to day life and in relationships, and can make it difficult to experience emotions like joy and happiness. For some, it is easy to identify traumatic experiences (sexual assault, natural disaster, physical abuse), and for others it may be more difficult because it felt “normal” or was not recognized as traumatic at the time (emotional neglect, poverty, abusive workplaces, infertility, etc.).

Trauma is stored in the brain and the body; because of this, trauma may be difficult to process through traditional cognitive behavioral interventions. I believe that having a safe, supportive environment is fundamental to healing from trauma and that utilizing specialized approaches that consider the whole person is crucial.

I am trained in EMDR, which is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma, and I integrate other trauma-informed modalities including Internal Family Systems and ego state interventions to treat trauma. I also utilize an attachment lens with clients, which is helpful for those who have experienced relational trauma. I work with each client to identify approaches that may best suit their needs and help them in their healing from trauma.

  • Healing is both individual and communal. By engaging with others who struggle with similar concerns, you also can feel less alone. To further support growth for those struggling with anxiety, I offer six-week group workshops that utilize improv principals and games to address issues caused by anxiety in a supportive and fun environment.

Laughter and play are a great way to move the brain from an anxious, disconnected state into a more connected, present-focused place. These workshops are not meant to replace regular therapy but are a great way to supplement work you may be doing with your own therapist and/or to gain strategies to use in your daily life to challenge the thoughts and patterns that are typical with low to moderate anxiety.

Consultation

I provide consulting and training to other agencies, non-profits, faith communities, and groups on a variety of topics including mental health, crisis intervention, creating trauma-informed policies, and integration of faith with mental health, abuse, and trauma.

I also have worked with faith communities on reviewing and creating policies to prevent and effectively respond to sexual abuse.
